The Cho Family, as we come to know them, consists of Vivian (neé Karana) Cho and her toddler daughter, Etsu Cho, living in Sentinel Apartments in Belladonna Cove. Vivian, we learn, is a recent widow struggling to create a new life for her daughter and herself after the death of her husband, Etokas Cho. She has started a friendship with neighbor, Timothy Riley, a widower, who is also raising a child alone; his daughter, Sally.

Vivian is the daughter of Chandra Karana and Thuyet Motoko, also of Belladonna Cove. Her maternal grandparents were Minh and Veata Motoko, and her paternal grandparents were Sohan and Indira Karana.

Her husband was the son of Sylvian Cho and Emiko Kimisha of Belladonna Cove. His maternal grandparents were Taku and Reiko Kimisha, and his paternal grandparents were Qiao and Aresi Cho.
