Viridian Parish

Forward
by Mr. Joel Smith

My father could've picked anywhere to live out the rest of his life, anywhere in the U.S., anywhere in Skasimlaki, for that matter - but I am so pleased that he chose Strangetown. I can't imagine having been born anywhere else.

I'm proud of my alien heritage, and my husband loves my big "wonky" eyes. It is my intent to keep a detailed history of Viridian Parish and all of its inhabitants - green and not. We really are a wonderful, eclectic little place and that makes me proud.

If there is any information - past or present - that you need on Viridian families, or any of the lands that make up Viridian Parish, please feel free to contact me anytime at joel.smith@skatoolaki.com. You can also stop by or drop a line to me at the Record Keeping Building at:

Cities & Towns

Strangetown is the parish seat of Viridian Parish, in the US state of Skasimlaki.

Also included are the small shopping district known as The Barrens and the humble metropolitan area, Tumbleweed Towne.

Young adult sims wishing to continue their education may do so at La Fiesta Tech or Sui Generis University, an alien-only college founded by Julian Smith, son of Pollination Technician #9 Smith and Jenny Curious Smith.

Statistics

Viridian Parish currently has a population of 55 Sims.

History

Viridian Parish is a vast desert location in Skasimlaki, sparsely populated and renowned for its mixed alien population. Alien sightings and abductions are frequent here, as is the intermingling of human and alien families.

The parish was founded only in the last few years by businessman A.P. Vandermorgan, who - it is rumored - planned to use the alien-fertile area to breed half-breed aliens to work in his many factories. If this was, indeed, Vandermorgan's plan he died before ever seeing it to fruition.

Before the area was settled by A.P. Vandermorgan only military bases were housed on the lands where Viridian Parish now sits. Vandermorgan's daughter, Lyla, married into a prominent military family but died under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind three young sons. A.P. Vandermorgan and his wife, Jacqueline, preceded their daughter in death by a few short years.

Though there are no longer Vandermorgans in the area, the Grunts, which Lyla married into, and Smiths, the first half-alien family in Strangetown, are now the most prominent families in the neighborhood.

Important Sims

Circe BeakerMayor Circe Beaker

At one time, the idea of nominating Circe Beaker as Strangetown's mayor would've sent the residents into a fit of giggles. Now, they can't imagine anyone else in the position.

Mayor Beaker, along with her husband, was once a renowned "crazy" scientist - the two lived in a scary mansion at the end of a road and on a hill and had a "subject" they regularly ran tests on. Kids dared one another to go ring the Beaker's doorbell on Halloween.

"Oh yes," laughs Circe. "We were the definitive mad scientists. The things we put poor Nervous through."

It seems as if it wouldn't be a laughing matter, but Circe and Loki Beaker - once the feared town nutcases - are now the beloved town darlings. How did such an amazing transformation take place? They found God.

"Jesus Christ just came into our lives, and we let him into our hearts," Circe explains, a beaming smile on her face. "We had a lot of amends to make."

And so they did. Circe and Loki sold their huge mansion, inherited from Loki's parents, and donated all of the money to charity. They went around town, door to door, and sat down with people and apologized for any fear they had caused them, and then - they made amends with Nervous Subject.

"They came to my door, bringing toys for the twins, a cake for Meredith," Nervous explains. "At first I didn't want to see them, but they sat down with me for hours, let me tell them all I had to say - I just went off on them about the pain they'd caused me - and then, letting it out like that, the anger just left me. They're really good people now, and, today, we're all great friends."

Circe and Beaker live in a modest home, and are saving up money to start a church in Strangetown. Their generosity to local charities and activeness in the local community have made them very popular. They have no children.

Joel SmithJoel Smith, Viridian Parish Record Keeper

Joel Smith is the third child born to the late Pollination Technician #9 - Strangetown's resident pure alien - and Jenny Curious Smith. He has two older siblings, and three younger ones.

Joel was always a people person and was very interested in studying people's backgrounds; especially the colorful and mixed backgrounds of Viridian Parish residents - including himself.

Unlike his younger brother, Julian, Joel opted out of college and started in politics - but found the cruel, harsh world unsatisfying. He married his childhood sweetheart, River Smith, and took on the job as record keeper, with River as his second-in-charge.

"I couldn't do this without River," he tells us. "I'm good at the backgrounds, the genealogy stuff. River is a whiz at history, at knowing about all the boring land deeds, and property histories. Together we're a perfect team."

Joel and River live in Strangetown with their two pet Dalmations, which they breed, Sonny and Cher.
