History

Beautiful Bayou View Cemtery is located in the historic city of Iberia and along the banks of Iberia Bayou. Surrounded by mossy oaks and time-worn pecan trees, the cemetery has been in use since the early 1700s, when Cajun settlers - evicted from Canada - trickled down to the Gulf Coast.

The land was designated as the area's official burial grounds in 1842 and has been in use since. In the early 1900s, a local woman - then head of the Iberia branch of the Horticultural Society, landscaped the grounds with beautiful, local flowers. The cemetery today is maintained as a garden as well as Evangeline Parish's final resting grounds; beautiful camelias, crepe myrtles, azaleas, magnolia trees, and hydrangea dot the landscape around and surround the ornate headstones of Evangeline's dearly departed.
